Homework Answers

Answer #1

Chief medical information officers (CMIO), seldom called directors of medicinal or health informatics, are a reasonably new addition to the healthcare business, but they are already in high need, as the healthcare industry shifts to electronic medical records (EMR).

Because the area of health informatics is still growing, a CMIO’s duties may fluctuate from one organization to the next. However, most CMIOs are functioning physicians or IT professionals with specific training, and their abilities reflect their dual areas of expertise.

Core responsibilities and duties

  • Appraise an organization’s IT systems
  • Design and implement EMR/EHR software and applications
  • Convert and examine medical and health data
  • Ensure quality of care across various information systems
  • Leverage medicinal and health data to develop services and daily operations
  • Train practitioners and other medical professionals in IT operations and applications, especially EMR/EHR including computerized physician order entry (CPOE)

CMIOs, depending on their specific areas of expertise and training, may also direct data analytics for research proposals and report decisions to executives, government, or scholarly organizations.

Education requirements

  • A minimum of bachelor’s degree in IT or a related field
  • Graduate Certificate in Health Informatics preferable
  • Master’s degree in health informatics is an added advantage

Qualifications and Skills

  • Medical Doctor with IT majors from an accredited US program
  • Knowledge of the organizational strategy
  • Expertise to handle Capital expenditure
  • Outstanding written & oral presentation skills including extensive group presentation abilities
  • Understanding of team leadership, conflict resolve, listening skills, and the versatility to meet the changing needs of the business
  • Skills in method improvement and change administration through knowledge of the operational and technological skills needed to meet high-quality outcomes
  • Ability to enthusiastically create administrative and philosophical adaptability with the purpose, mission, and values
  • Advanced problem-solving skills to deal with complex issues when bringing the physicians, stakeholders, and the community collectively
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities and can work effectively with a variety of personalities

Experience

  • 5-10 years’ experience in clinical informatics in a leadership position
  • 3 years’ post-training clinical practice knowledge

  • Board certification in a perceived clinical specialty
  • Board accredited in clinical informatics, preferred

Regulatory requirements
