As part of collective bargaining process, if an employee feels that his workplace rights have been violated by the employer, he can raise a grievance. Grievances are usually reserved only for employees. A grievance is a form of formal complaint against non compliance of employment agreement by the employer or management. An employee raises a grievance usually when he is negatively affected by employer actions. Such negative action may be non-promotion, disciplinary action, denial of benefits etc. An employer must address the grievance through formal means and reach a resolution.
