YES, I agree that content theories positively motivate employees because these depend on need and aspiration. If employee need and aspiration fulfill he is motivated positively. Even content theories are a subpart of motivation theories.

CONTENT THEORIES

Let's understand how each content theory motivate employees-

Maslow's Hierarchy of needs-
This theory based on needs that follow hierarchy i.e bottom need fulfill, first before reaching to next level.

  • Physiological needs such as food and water.
  • Safety Needs-job security and free from diseases.
  • Social Needs- having a relationship with different people.
  • Esteem Needs- receiving praise and status.
  • Self-actualization needs- wanted to be the best.

Moving up the hierarchy keep an employee motivated.

Herzberg's Two Factor theory-
This based on two factors which help to motivate employee

  • Motivators-Interesting job and growth.
  • Hygiene Factors- Working condition and remuneration.

Employee is motivated

  • If there is no stress of job hygiene factors like working conditions employees is keep motivating.
  • Job enrichment and empowerment, boost job satisfaction.

McClelland's Three needs theory-

  • Need for achievement- Opportunity to get promoted motivate employee.
  • Need for affiliation-Collaborating with other motivate employee to work.
  • Need for power- Having high status helps an employee to take a challenging task.

This theory helps managers to set motivational targets.

McGregor's Theory X and Theory Y

  • Theory X- unmotivated and lazy member of the group.
  • Theory Y-self-motivated and ambitious

In this theory, Employees or managers clearly know at what level they are dealing either with an unmotivated atmosphere or self-motivated one. So they motivated to decide what policies and strategies they follow to deal with the situation. They set a target that encourages employees to challenge themselves.

Alderfer's ERG Theory
In this theory, three needs arrange in a hierarchy which helps to motivate employee-

  • Existence Needs- It concerns about the physical well being
  • Relatedness Needs- It consists of needs that have positive interaction with others.
  • Growth Needs-It relates to our personal development need.

Adam's Equity Theory
This theory based on lower-level employees' perceives of upper-level employee motivation. It depends on assessing the different situation in a company by an employee which help to motivate him.

  • The employee can compare themselves to others to get motivated.
  • Also by examing experiences with others and motivate.
