Content theories are oriented to explain what motivates a person. When explaining the 'what' - these theories focus on the various needs that people feel and encounter to fulfill. It mainly focuses on the content [the things] that are motivating a person to perform certain actions.

Motivation is very significant in an individuals life

  • It helps the person to survive- People do actions to make a living for themselves, acquire food and security.
  • It helps in achieving the goals. If there is not motivation then the person will not be interested and will not give his/her best.
  • It helps in setting priorities of life
  • Individuals learn perseverance
  • It keeps the mental states healthy as people remain sane even after failures. Motivation is the key to get up again and work towards the goal.
  • It helps in boosting up the self esteem and self-efficacy.
