Jemima is concerned about her father, Archie. He is no longer able to feed himself. At mealtimes staff bring his meals to his room and assist him to eat. Her father eats very slowly and shows little interest in eating. The staff encourage him to eat but don’t manage to get much into him.
Jemima feels that if staff could take much longer, he would eat more. But she understands that they cannot take hours feeding him as they have other duties as well.

1 Ensure that patient is comfortable in his position (help the patient to sit upright or raise the head of bed)

3 give a chance for the patient to choose his food or ask the patient which food he wants to eat first
4 during feeding a patient a health care worker should sit on the patient side that is not weak and keep spoon on the side of patient mouth that has feeling .
5 test the swallowing ability by first giving a small amount of water with a sppon
6 for helping the patient to swallow his food always put a small amount of food on tip of the spoon .if patient has a tendency to chock add a little water or other liquid on the spoon
7 It is important to stop feeding if he tells or shows he had enough
in most of the hospitals nurses are struggling to provide all aspect of patient care mainly because of staff shortage. SO nurses can asl the help of nursing assistance to assist in nutritional status of patient .A consultation to physician is necessary tto check the patients level of nutritional status and ability to eat. treat all patient issues is necessary .
ANOTHER PROBLEM NURSES FACE IS issues regarding clearing patient and his care givers concerns .In some cases it take hours to clear their concerns
