Nursing interventions:

  • Assess the age of child and type of article for play
  • Encourage play and allow the parents to bring child's favourite toys from home
  • Select safe toys appropriate for child's age and intrest
  • Plan and execute age appropriate play activity and to prepare child for invasive procedures and observe the behaviour and allow child to express fears and concerns
  • Eliminate all sharp, broken and small toys which can be swallowed
  • Educate the parents to use non toxic and flame resistant toys
  • Educate the parents to discard the broken toys safely
  • Educate the parents to choose play activity as per child tolerance and energy

Outcomes:

Child will participate in appropriate play without injury
