Purpose of nursing diagnosis is to communicate the health care needs of the individuals and aggregate among the members of health care team and within the health care delivery system. Main purpose of nursing diagnosis is to facilitate the individualized care of the client, family or community.

Nursing diagnosis is a three part statement.

  • Diagnostic label - Describe the client's response to an actual or potential health problem
  • Etiology - Cause of the problem
  • Defining characteristics - Cluster of sign and symptoms that indicate the presence of particular health problems.
