The pathophysiology of epiglottis is

The underlying cause like any infection can affect the epiglottis. This causes infection if the epiglottis >as a result can lead to redness ,tenderness and swelling >leads to sore throat >the immune system reacts to fight back the infection >elevated body temperature >if this prolongs the symptoms like difficulty in breathing, risk of aspiration due to blocking of the inflamed epiglottis ,inability to speak and drooling occurs

If the patient is not treated it can cause fatal reactions in the patient .
