What is the the pathophysiology of Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY OF ACUTE RESPIRATORY DISTRESS SYNDROME (ARDS) :
After thre is an injury to the lungs the alveolar cells are damaged which leads to decreased surfactant production thereby decreasing alveolar compliance and recoil which leads to atelectasis and atelectasis forms hyaline membrane and decreases lung compliance which then leads to impairment in gas exchange and ARDS.
On the other hand due to lung injury the vasoactive substances such as serotonin, bradykinin and histamine are also released which causes increased in alveolocapillary membrane permeability , bronchoconstriction and obstruction and narrowing the vasular.
