describe why percentage distributions are used in descriptive statistics and why are they more informative than raw data

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Ans) Descriptive statistics are very important because if we simply presented our raw data it would be hard to visulize what the data was showing, especially if there was a lot of it. Descriptive statistics therefore enables us to present the data in a more meaningful way, which allows simpler interpretation of the data.

- The main purpose of descriptive statistics is to provide a brief summary of the samples and the measures done on a particular study. Coupled with a number of graphics analysis, descriptive statistics form a major component of almost all quantitative data analysis.

- Descriptive research designs typically only require descriptive statistics. Frequency and percentage statistics should be used to represent most personal information variables. However, if participants reported their exact age, then the mean and standard deviation should be calculated for the age variable.
