Relationship between strep throat and glomerulonephritis:
Poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis is a kidney disease that
develops 10-14 days after a skin or throat infection caused by
bacteria called A streptococcus.
Poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis is not caused by the
bacteria itself but by the body's infecting fighting system/ immune
system.
The strep bacterial infection causes the tiny blood vessels in
the filtering units of kidneys ( glomeruli) to become
inflamed.
