Given the aging of baby boomers and the changes in health care, will there be an increase in patient requests for physician-assisted suicides as we move forward in the 21st century? Why or why not?
Physician assisted suicide is described as the process by which a medical doctor administers a lethal drug for a patient or prescribes the drug or is present when the patient takes the drug. There has been different terms for this like assisted suicide, right to die, end of life decision making, do not resuscitate, patient self determination and aid in dying. This issue has become an increasingly important and controversial public policy issue in the aging society.
