  • Say exactly what you mean. Don't use exaggerations and sarcasm.
  • Your facial expressions should be in accordance with what you are trying to say.
  • If the child doesn't understand what you are saying, repeat your statement. Simply whatever you are saying. Example - Keep the book down or keep the book down on the table.
  • Justify your statements to the child. In other words, explain to the child the consequences of not listening to the instruction. Example - Don't cross the road, a bus may hit you.
  • Teach the child to listen when someone is speaking and to talk when its his/her turn
  • Praise the child when he/she does good.
  • Ask the child whether he/she has understood.
