I feel there is a cultural, societal pressure to be thin in our country as from the very beginning women are considered to be beautiful if they are like Barbie doll. The media reflects this view of the society as well as promotes it. This is indicated by the fact that a sizable amount of the population suffers from; anorexia i.e. 1.0% to 4.2% in their lifetime. According to the National Eating Disorder Association, up to 30 million people suffer from an eating disorder such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa or binge eating disorder in the USA. Worldwide the figure is close to70 million sufferers. Thus our country has a large share of these disorders due to the influence of the culture and media.
