Fungal infections are caused by fungus which is usually opportunistic in nature and treated by antifungal medications.

High risk group for fungal infections :

  • People who are immunocompromised like People suffering from AIDS .
  • Persons who are on immunosuppresant drugs secondary to organ transplantation or autoimmune disease.
  • Cancer patients who are on chemotherapy.
  • Low WBC counts.
  • Patient with central venous catheter.
  • Patient hospitalised in ICU for long term.
  • Occupational fungal infection in people who are working in construction sites, confectioneries and canneries.

Health Education to prevent the fungal infections :

  • Maintain proper hygiene of the skin.
  • Make sure dry the skin properly specially in the creases .
  • Keep foot clean especially between the toes. Make sure it is moisture free.
  • Do not wear tight shoes.
  • Apply petroleum jelly so that it acts a barrier.
  • Wear mask if your exposed to molds in construction area.
  • Do not share same soap, towels in the household.
  • Make sure bedlinen are washed regularly.
  • Do not share clothes.
  • If you have fungal infections, take a course of antifungal medications as prescribed by the doctor. Do not discontinue in between which again causes resistant fungal infection recurrence.
  • Eat healthy balanced meals which improves the immunity.
  • Exercise regularly which again increases immunity.
