Fungal infections are caused by fungus which is usually
opportunistic in nature and treated by antifungal
medications.
High risk group for fungal infections :
- People who are immunocompromised like People suffering from
AIDS .
- Persons who are on immunosuppresant drugs secondary to organ
transplantation or autoimmune disease.
- Cancer patients who are on chemotherapy.
- Low WBC counts.
- Patient with central venous catheter.
- Patient hospitalised in ICU for long term.
- Occupational fungal infection in people who are working in
construction sites, confectioneries and canneries.
Health Education to prevent the fungal infections :
- Maintain proper hygiene of the skin.
- Make sure dry the skin properly specially in the creases .
- Keep foot clean especially between the toes. Make sure it is
moisture free.
- Do not wear tight shoes.
- Apply petroleum jelly so that it acts a barrier.
- Wear mask if your exposed to molds in construction area.
- Do not share same soap, towels in the household.
- Make sure bedlinen are washed regularly.
- Do not share clothes.
- If you have fungal infections, take a course of antifungal
medications as prescribed by the doctor. Do not discontinue in
between which again causes resistant fungal infection
recurrence.
- Eat healthy balanced meals which improves the immunity.
- Exercise regularly which again increases immunity.
