Answer #1

Pulmonary function tests is used for diagnosing some specific types of pulmonary or lung disease like asthma, bronchitis or emphysema. The main objective of this test is to determine the main cause behind the shortness of breath.

In Pulmonary function tests, the size of the lungs are measured along with the magnitude of air flow in and out. Tests like spirometry and lung volume are also included. In addition to these, certain tests like pulse oximetry and arterial blood gas tests are being performed to evaluate the level and circulation of oxygen in the blood. It is also assessed whether the constant exposure to certain chemicals at work affects lung function of the patient or not.
