Answer #1

Linearity: This condition provides us the relation between input and output. If the system satisfies Linearity Condition it should obey Homogeneity and Additivity.

  • Homogeneity: If we double the Input, the output should be doubled.
    • X -> Y ==> 2(X) -> 2(Y)
  • Additivity: If we give input as the sum of two or more inputs, the output should be the sum of individual outputs.
    • X1 -> Y1 and X2 -> Y2 ==> X1+ X2 -> Y1 + Y2

Signal to Noise ratio (SNR): This will give us information about the level of desirable signal to the level of background noise. As the term itself indicates it is the ratio between Singal Power to Noise Power. It will be measured in dB (Decibels).

SNR = (Signal Power)/(Noise Power)

An image is to be sampled with a signal-to-quantisation ratio of at least 61 dB. The image samples are non-negative. The image sample values fall within the range from 0 to 1. How many bits are needed to achieve the desired signal-to-quantisation noise ratio (SQNR)? Assume that the intensities of the image are uniformly distributed over the (0, 1). Note that for a (B+1)-bit quantiser the SQNR is given by: SQNR = 6.02B + 10.81 - 20 log (Xmax/qx). The...
