Please kindly explain me "The significant meaning of the result of the signal to noise ratio as the multiple of 3".

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Signal-to-noise ratio is defined as the ratio of the power of a signal (meaningful information) to the power of background noise (unwanted signal). Higher the SNR, better is the quality of the signal. Low SNR leads the overlapping of the main signal and noise and thus redundancy.

It SNR=3 simply means, power of main signal is almost three times strong as the noise signal or the amplitude of the required signal is sqaure root(3) times stronger than that of noise.
