Explain how and why inertia among mail order businesses was affected by the rise of department.

Mail order business is a type of business where the advertising of the business of the seller is done through mass mailing with the help of a circular or a catalogue. The order is placed by the buyer through mails only.

Even though there was rise in departments back in the 1800s but certain disadvantages of departments like having a place like a shop to display the goods, cost of employing workers to work in the shop, limited market to sell and so on led to the beginning of mail order business.

In this kind of business, no place was needed to display goods, advertising was done conveniently, there was cost reduction, wider market to sell goods.

As a result of these advantages of mail order business, it started in the United States in around 1845 and took up slowly with a lot of customers on mail order business.
