2. Using Cohen’s Tourist typology, explain how you can effectively segment a tourism attraction of your choice.
Cohen's tourist
typology tries to divide tourists into four(4) categories
:
A. Organized mass tourists - Characteristics of
full-packaged holidays and highly influenced by the environment and
what other people do or don't do.
B. Individual mass tourists -
Although they travel conventionally and stick to places that are
environment dependent, yet the only difference is they travel
individually.
C. Explorer - Try to avail non-conventional means
of travel although they do not compromise on comfort. These people
like to be creative while travelling.
D. Drifter - Often seeking long terms stays, these
tourists seek to adapt to the local societies. Believe in
innovative tourism and risks.
While A & B (mass tourists) can be further segregated into
institutionalized tourirsts, C & D are categorized into
non-institutionalized tourists.
