We can cope more effectively with stressors to avoid experiencing overload and burnout by having a problem-focused coping by trying to solve the problems in advance i.e. maneuvering the source of stress before it creates any problem and emotion-focused coping that aims at reducing the emotional distress which is linked with a situation [Carver et al., 1989]. We can use social support resources such as colleagues at work, friends, and family for preemptive problem-focused coping. In emotion-focused coping, we can use acceptance and positive interpretation of stressful events, denial, avoidance and seek social support for emotional reasons [Carver et al., 1989].
