Is leadership nothing more than a trap of the Fundamental Attribution Bias? Do we see a coach with a winning season and proclaim him or her a great leader? Do we observe a CEO who boosts stock price and we bestow the mantle of Leadership on him or her?
The fundamental attribution error refers tendency of the people to overemphasize personal characteristics and ignoring the situational factors in making the judgement of others' behavior. Similarly the leadership is also trap of the fundamental attribution bias because without it's knowledge the improvement may not exist. When a leader feels that an employee is a bad performer their future performance would be largely out of their hands; and instead of it when it focus on the performance (an objective is not fulfilled, a communication style issue, a common stumbling block, a process not used, etc.) can help in enhancing the performance.
Coaching improves a leader's objectivity and perspective; and facilitates them with equipping and growth. Moreover it satisfies personal sanctification. Thus a good coaching with a winning attitude can produce good leaders. A CEO can lift the stock price with the good leadership skills. The CEO's reputation as a leader is an important factor, particularly when the investors assess his track record for creating shareholder value. There is a positive correlation between how the stock performs and CEO who has excellent leadership skills
