The maximum contaminant level ( MCL ) for groundwater is 0.004 mg/L or 4 ppb .

The effect of beryllium on human health are -

1) Exposure of beryllium to human skin may cause skin problems as well as many skin allergies .

2) Ingestion of beryllium may cause irritation in eyes , nose , throat .

3) chronic beryllium disease ( CBD ) is the most common disease caused due to exposure of beryllium . CBD is a T-cell meditated disorder.

4) an excess in lung cancer patients found in persons who are much exposed to beryllium and also many organizations have marked beryllium as carcinogen.

Typical sources of beryllium in ground water are coal burning , wastes generation from industries deals with beryllium , weather's rocks and atmospheric beryllium decomposition.
