Consider the listed gases at 298K. Which of these gases will cool upon expansion? Which of these gases will warm upon expansion? Justify answers using bulk and molecular physical properties of the gases.

N2, CO2, He, CH4, H2

Homework Answers

Answer #1

1. At 298 k the N2,CH4,CO2 gases will cool upon expansion because of their inversion temperatures are more than 298k so when pressure starts decreasing as per the joule thompson curve during expansion the temperature decreases gradually so.

2. In case of H2,He the inversion temperatures are 51K around so gases will not get cooled while expansion ,during the expansion the intermolecular energy is high compared to the forces applying on the gases so gases may get warmed.

check the joule thompson effect for the more clarification. check the following T vs P plot it has the inversioncurve

The greenhouse effect is caused by gases in the atmosphere that trap heat. We know that the atmosphere is made up of 21% O2 and 78% N2. The other 1% consists of traces of CO2, NO2, CO, NO, O3, N2O, CH4, and CFC’s like CFCl3, CCl2F2, and CCl3CHF2. A) Draw the Lewis structure of N2, NO2, and CFCl3. Indicate the total number of valence electrons in each structure. Submit a photo of your drawing with your ID card. Background: Darwinism Today the theory of evolution is a well-supported, unifying principle in biology, which explains how life on earth began and developed. The scientific evidence overwhelmingly supports the idea that all living things share a common ancestry. Charles Darwin, a British naturalist, is the person most remembered for his contribution to how the process of evolution works. He wrote a book, published over 150 years ago, called On the Origin of Species, which was very controversial at the time....
