What would be the effect on a gas chromatographic peak if the sample is not immediately injected onto the column (i.e., sticking the syringe into the injection port, but not injecting the sample right away?

In a gas chromatography, the injection process plays a critical role in the separation of the peaks; in a way determining the efficiency of the chromatograhpic column. Therefore, in order to maintain the high efficiency of the column a proper injection should be carried out.

A part of this process includes immediate and fast injection of the sample into the column, this is because a slow injection of the sample would result into BROADENING of the peaks as a result there will be loss in the resolution as the peaks will not be separated properly.
