1. Explain how the Fick’s First Law of Diffusion is related to drug concentrations of either side of a membrane or barrier.

2. What is the role of the partition coefficient in determine the transport of drug across a barrier or membrane.

3. What is the pH-partition theory?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

1.The drug is diffused according to the ficks law by attracting opposite charge of biomolecule.e.g if the drug is positive ion it tends to bind to negatively charged biomolecule in such a way to diffused to in either side of the membrane.

2.the drug partition coefficients(pK) desires the binding/absorption capacity to the biomolecule. If pka or pkb value is high it tends to absorbed by negatively /positive charged biomolecule will bind. The diffusion rate will be increased or decreased based on the OK value

3. pH partition is the tendency for acids to accumulate in basic fluid compartments, and bases to accumulate in acidic compartments. The reason for this phenomenon is that acids become negatively electric charged in basic fluids, since they donate a proton4
