Hydrolysis of cystal violet.
In the experiment, the rate of hydrolysis of crystal violet is studied. the hydrolyzing agent is OH- which is added in large excess, such that the concentration of OH- remains unaffected (almost no change or negligible) or constant throughout the experimental procedure. This is termed as flooding wherein, the OH- is present in large excess in the reaction. The rate of the hydrolysis of crystal violet thus depends only on the concentration of crystal violet and remains independent on the OH- concentration.
