Answer #1

Fractional distillation is the separation of a mixture into its component parts, or fractions, separating chemical compounds by their boiling point by heating them to a temperature at which one or more fractions of the compound will vaporize. It uses distillation to fractionate. Generally the component parts boil at less than 25 °C from each other under a pressure of one atmosphere. If the difference in boiling points is greater than 25 °C, a simple distillation is used.

Hexane Boiling point: 68 °C, nonane Boiling point: 151 °C, undecane Boiling point: 196 °C. among three, hexane is having low boiling point so it comes out firstly out of the fractionating column followed by nonane and lastly by undecane components.

When ACE, ASP and CAF were analyzed by TLC using 2:9:9 mixture of t-butyl alcohol, 4-methyl-2-pentanone and ethyl acetate respectively the following Rf values were obtained: ACE (0.51), ASP (0.15) and CAF (0.35). These results are not the same ones obtained when using 2% acetic acid and 98% ethyl acetate as the mobile phase? Explain why were the results different for our case (TLC shown) particularly for caffeine. I know that the 2%/98% mobile phase is mostly nonpolar, so asprin...

I am a little confused with two similarly looking to me questions that have different explanations and I’d like to understand why. First question is this: “Which method does less work against gravity: carrying a 1 kg weight up 50 m by taking the stairs or taking the elevator. Explain”. Here we say the work is the same and that the path traveled doesn’t matter and use w=mgh where H is just a vertical component. The second question is “a...

Write the null and alternative hypotheses symbolically and identify which hypothesis is the claim. Then identify if the test is left-tailed, right-tailed, or two-tailed and explain why. b. Identify and explain which test statistic you will...
