When I2 shaken with 0.1M KBr and then C6H14 was added, was there a reaction? explain
Part 1)
When Bromine is shaken with KI solution. KBr is formed and Iodine is precipitated as a black solid. To the solution, if hexane(C6H14) is added, Iodine will dissolve in the hexane and a transparent golden yellow color appears in the bottom of the organic layer due to the dissolved Iodine and the precipitate disappears
Br2 + KI KBr + I2
Part 2)
Iodine will not react with KBr, since Iodine is less reactive than Bromine. When hexane is added, the Iodine will dissolve in the hexane layer to form a transparent golden yellow color at the bottom of the organic layer due to the dissolved Iodine
I2 + KBr No reaction
