Part 1)

When Bromine is shaken with KI solution. KBr is formed and Iodine is precipitated as a black solid. To the solution, if hexane(C6H14) is added, Iodine will dissolve in the hexane and a transparent golden yellow color appears in the bottom of the organic layer due to the dissolved Iodine and the precipitate disappears

Br2 + KI   KBr + I2

Part 2)

Iodine will not react with KBr, since Iodine is less reactive than Bromine. When hexane is added, the Iodine will dissolve in the hexane layer to form a transparent golden yellow color at the bottom of the organic layer due to the dissolved Iodine

I2 + KBr   No reaction
