Describe how you can create a buffer from solid Na2CO3, aqueous HCl and water. List the summarized steps.
Solution :-
When the Na2CO3 and HCl are used to make the buffer
Then the reactions which are taking place are as follows
CO3^2- ion will acts as base and produce the HCO3^- ion as the conjugate acid
Therefore after mixing the HCl with NaCO3 we will get the HCO3^- and CO3^2- ions in the solution which will act as buffer system.
Therefore in the buffer if the acid is added then it will react with the CO3^2- ion to form the HCO3^- and maintain the pH
And if the base is added in the buffer then it will react with the HCO3^- ion to form the CO3^2- ions and maintain the pH
