Would you expect a material in which the atomic bonding is predominantly ionic in nature to be more or less likely to form a noncrystalline solid upon solidification than a covalent material? Why? Please explain, thank you

Answer #1

there are less likely to ionic nature upon solidification. because most of the noncrystalline materials are having covalent bond, they share the electron, so there would be no partial charges.
But in ionic bonds, one gain and one lose electron. so there would be partial +ve and -ve charges, so if this molecule get close to the other ionic molecule, then these charges would attract or repulse the other molecule's charges, so it help them stay in regular shapes based on their charges. that's why crystals has regular shape of molecules.
