In which of the following aqueous solutions would you expect CuBr to have the highest solubility? A) Pure water B) 0.10 M AgNO3 C) 0.20 M NaBr D) 0.15 M KBr E) 0.10 M LiBr Please explain if possible. Thank you.
Sol :- CuBr will have highest solubility in pure water, because water have more value of dielectric constant than other solvents therefore water can easily break the interaction between cation (Cu+) and anion (Br-).
In 0.20 M NaBr, 0.15 M KBr and 0.10 M LiBr the solubility of CuBr will be lowest because all of these contain a common ion which is Br-. Due to the presence of common ion solubility of sparingly soluble salt always decreases because reaction shift in backward direction.
Hence, option (A) " Pure water " is the correct answer. |
