1) Explain why some substances move up the stationary pase in a chromatographic experiment faster than others.
2) Describe how the rate of movement of a substance in a chromatography experiment can be used to identify the substance.
1> In chromatographic experiment some substance move up the stationary phase becoz- it depends upon the polarity of the substance . If a perticular substance is less polar than the eluting solvent then it moves up at very faster rate whereas if a substance has relatively comparable polarity W.r.t eluting solvent then it moves slowly upwards.
2> If your product is more polar than the starting material then it moves slowly in the stationary phase and as a result you will gate a spot lower than your starting material . thereby you can identify the product of your reaction.
