Please describe the hybridization of atomic orbitala, shape and geometry and use examples to explain
Hybridization of atomic orbital: It is a linear combination of atomic orbital in which the wave functions of each atomic orbital added to create new hybrid wavefunction. Hybridization predicts geometry - sp: linear, sp2: trigonal planner, sp3: tetrahedral; but the shapes depends on number of lone pair electrons on the central atom. It is not necessary that geometry and shape must always be equal. For example: AB3E2, a molecule having hybridized as sp3d. So, geometry is trigonal bi-pyramidal, but shape is T-shape.
