Identify the type of reactions involved in each of the following process taking place during the dissolution of sodium chloride in water

Homework Answers

Answer #1

following types of reactions takes place.

NaCl +H2O---->NaCl(aq)

NaCl (aq)------->Na+ +Cl-   .this is endothermic reation reaction,since we have to supply some amout of heat to break NaCl into its ions.

H2O----->H+ +OH- ...this is also an endothermic reaction.

now ions recombine in the following manner.

Na+ + OH-   ------>NaOH,,,this is an exothermic reaction.

H+ + H+------>H2 and and Cl- + Cl- ------>Cl2

the complete reaction can be written as

2NaCl + 2H2O -------> 2NaOH + Cl2 + H2

Describe the process that takes place between the participants in the neutralization reaction between the strong acid hydrochloric acid, HCl(aq), and the strong base sodium hydroxide, NaOH(aq), forming water and sodium chloride, NaCl(aq). Mention the nature of the particles in the solution before and after the reaction. Because hydrochloric acid is an acid it reacts with water to form hydronium ions and chloride ions. Because it is a strong acid, the reaction is a complete reaction leaving only hydronium ions...
