Which of the following would give you the best measure of the equivalence point? A methyl orange b methyl yellow c Congo red d phenolphthalein e oh meter

Homework Answers

Answer #1

e) pH meter method is best method to measure of the equivalence point. Because in any other visual end point method exact end point may not be detected.

Because in indicator visual end point method indicator must be used and we have to identify color change at equivalence point. So some times we can't identify the color change immediately.

But in pH meter there is no indicator so we need not to identify color change. Equivalence point can be determined by the plot of pH values and volume of titrant added.

Experiment 22 Advance Study Assignment: Properties of Systems in Chemical Equilibrium Methyl orange, HMO, is a common acid-base indicator. In solution it ionizes according to the equation: HMO(aq) H+(aq) + MO−(aq) red yellow If methyl orange is added to distilled water, the solution turns yellow. If a drop or two of 6 M HCl is added to the yellow solution, it turns red. If to that solution one adds a few drops of 6 M NaOH the color reverts to...
