Provide general strateguies to delay the occurance of resistance againts sulfa drugs.??

Answer #1

The natural phenomenon of resistance to a particular drug is inevitable. However, the process of being a drug unusable can be delayed by following simple strategies yet more effective. Firstly, the drugs are not to be used unless it is absolutely important. Secondly, the pharmacies should be allowed to sell drugs only based on a physicians prescription. Drugs overdose should be avoided and can be controlled by regular visits to concerned physician. It has been proven that antibiotics including sulpha durgs are largely used in Animal Husbandry and agriculture. These needs to be controlled since this will ultimately lead to antibiotic resistance in humans through biological food chain.

A strategy common to treating bacterial infections and cancer is to provide patients with two different antibiotics (for infections) or two different chemotherapeutic agents (for cancer) using two drugs that act on two distinct targets. This strategy is aimed at reducing complications from bacteria or cancer cells developing resistance to the drugs. What is the general notion behind this strategy? I.e., exactly why could one expect the chance for developing resistance to be much less?
