Homework Answers

Answer #1

Independent Variable: The amount of performance enhancing drugs will be recorded for the professional athletes which is a nominal variable or continuous variable.

Dependent Variable: The type of short term and long term effect recorded which is a ordinal variable or categorical variable.

Data Analysis: Here the independent variable is continuous and dependent variable is categorical hence the logistic regression will be used to see the effect of drugs in long term and short term.

Research is an integral part of all professional fields. Designing a research study can be a complicated task that can be simplified if the appropriate techniques can be identified. This assignment will give you the opportunity to design an experiment, including finding relevant prior research, determining the appropriate sample, data analysis techniques, and discuss the results you hope to see. Working from the topic chosen earlier in the topic selection, you will be designing your own statistical study. In a...

Most sports injuries are immediate and obvious, like a broken leg. However, some can be more subtle, like the neurological damage that may occur when soccer players repeatedly head a soccer ball. To examine long-term effects of repeated headings, Downs and Abwender (2002) examined two different age groups of soccer players and swimmers. Specifically they examined old and young soccer players and old and young swimmers. They measured their subjects’ performance on a conceptual thinking task to determine if there...

Suppose a cognitive psychologist conducts a study on the effects of long-term substance use on short-term memory. The researcher recruits a total of 30 participants, where 10 participants are identified as marijuana users, 10 participants are alcohol users, and 10 participants identify as using no substances. Participants in each group were given a list of 20 nouns to memorize for 15 minutes. Participants were then given a 15- minute break and then asked to write down/recall as many of the...

For this week’s discussion, I want you to discuss with your group what you think this study is about. What is the hypothesis? What theory does it come from? What do you predict will happen (do you expect something different than the hypothesis in the researcher instructions? If so, what and why?)? Do you think...
