which of the following of molecules will be more likely to undergo intersystem crossing HN=NH or HSb=SbH? Explain?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

HN=NH molecule is more likely to undergo intersystem crossing .

Explanation:

When compare electronegativity of Nitrogen & Antimony ,Nitrogen is more electronegative atom than Antimony.

Here intersystem crossing mean,Non radiative transition between 2 same energy vibrational level.it will happen in electronic level.

coming to our problem ,

Nitrogen(NH=NH) is much less Fluorescence Properties because of it electronegativity,so it would be like go to Another vibrational level & falldown triplet state then it come to ground state with the emission of phosphorescence. In the case of Antimony it not possible intersystem crossing it might be go Internal conversion.
