What type of network solid is KCl and NaCl?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The crystal structure of potassium chloride is like that of NaCl. It adopts a face-centered cubic structure. Its lattice constant is roughly 6.3 Å. Crystals cleave easily in three directions. The type of chemical bond that holds together the potassium and chlorine atoms in a potassium chloride molecule is an ionic bond. The electronegative chlorine atom accepts the 4s electron belonging to the potassium atom and an ionic attraction arises between the resulting K+ and the Cl ions. similarly for NaCl. Ans

You get a brain slice and perfuse it with distilled water containing 0.9% NaCl, 0.09% KCl, and an innocuous pH buffer. You patch onto two neurons that have chemical synapses connecting them, but you see no response in the post-synaptic cell when you stimulate the pre-synaptic cell. However, when you stimulate each cell individually, you observe action potentials only within the stimulated cell. What did you forgot to include in your perfusion solution?
