Describe three characteristics of a good acid base indicator
Acid Base indicators:
The chemical substances which are used to detect the end point in acid base titrations are called "acid base indicators".
Ex: Methyl orange, Methyl red, Phenolpthalene, etc.
A substance which exhibits one colur in acidic solution & different colour in basic solution is called an indicators.
All the indicators are weak organic acids or weak organic bases.
Ex:
1) Phenapthalein is a weak acid. It act as acid base indicator. Phenaptalein is colourless in acedic medium and exhibits pink colour in basic medium.
2) Methyl orange is a weak base. It act as acid base indicator. Methyl orange is pink colour in acedic medium and yellow colour in basic medium.
