Pulsatile release of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) influences the pituitary releases pulses of the gonadotropins, luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). These hormones are responsible to influence variety of hormones produced by gonad, such as estradiol, progesterone, inhibins, and testosterone. The pulsatile LHRH and gonadotropin release acts as a signaling device for the modulation of hormone effects, prevents receptor downregulation, and consequent development of refractoriness in the hypothalamic–pituitary–gonadal system.
