What kind of chlorophyll is not the same as chlorophyll a in higher plants?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

If all green color plants can be considered as higher plants so the plants has mainly 2 types of chlorophyll they are A and B

Where A is the type which having a major role to produce energy or food for the plants and B is having the role to help A

The main structural difference in the A and B was the presence of aldehyde group in the C7 of porphyrin structure

B is an accessory pigment which helps the chlorophyll A in the photosynthesis

B can absorb the light in the low light condition and transfer it to the A so the photosynthesis can be completed

You created a standard curve using chlorophyll a from spirulina rather than leaf extract since it doesn’t contain chlorophyll b, yet were later told chlorophyll b doesn’t fluoresce. What might have happened if you made a standard curve using crudely-purified chlorophyll a from leaf extract? How would it have affected your results and why?
