What process does plant go from the diploid generation to the haploid generation?
The life cycle of plants which involves the change from a diploid generation to a haploid generation can be briefly stated as:-
Formation of a sporophyte (Diploid):- when the egg and sperm unite they form a diploid embryo which then divides and develops into a multicellular diploid generation of a plant life cycle called the sporophyte. The cells of the sporophyte undergo meiosis to produce haploid cells called as spores.
Formation of a Gametophyte (Haploid):- the spores formed divides and develop into a multicellular haploid generation of the plant life cycle called as the gametophyte, some of the cells of the gametophyte become specialized into gametes called sperms or eggs so in this way haploid gametophyte cells are formed. The sperms and eggs again unite and form the sporophyte so this cycle repeats and thus plants go from a diploid generation to a haploid generation.
