Vitellogenesis – It is the process of yolk formation with help of the nutrients that are being deposited in the female germ cell or in the oocyte. It is basically associated with reproduction of the lecithotropic organisms. However, in the insects it is slightly different and the body starts to produce the hormones and produces the vitellogenin proteins. In this the nutrients and the food is progressively being stored in the growing oocytes of the oviparous animals that makes the yolk of the mature egg.

In the mammals, the primary sex determination is based on the chromosome. The female chromosome is XX and the male is XY where the Y chromosome carries a gene which encodes for a testis determining factor. The sex determination in mammals is mostly based on the chromosome where XX determines male and XY determines female.
