1. It is easily available hovering over ripe fruites where it feeds over yeast cells present over the fruit surface.

2. The flies can be reared inside bottles having yeast culture over medium containg cream of wheat , molasses and agar.

3. They could grown on simple synthetic medium in the laboratory.

4. A new generation can be raised within 2 weeks with single mating producing hundreds of individuals.

5. The animal can be temporarily inactivated with ether and examined by hand lens/ dissection microscope.

6. Female is distinguishable from male.

7. Polytene chromosomes occur in salivary glands of larva which indicate any type of abnormality

8. Breeding in termites / insects is quite cheap.

9. It can be done throughout the year.

10. Showing variation in sexual reproduction.
