Which of the following is a characteristic of all oncogenic viruses:

always contain DNA

presence of reverse transcriptase

ability to integrate into host-cell chromosome and be replicated with host DNA

cause protoplast formation

always contain RNA

Homework Answers

Answer #1

1. Note: Oncogenic Viruses are the viruses that cause cancers. These are also called as "Tumor Viruses".

There are both Oncogenic DNA Viruses(Human Papilloma virus) and Oncogenic RNA Viruses (Hepatitis C virus).

Transformation in Oncogenic DNA Viruses: In the DNA Viruses the proteins coded by transforming genes forms complexes with normal Cellular Proteins and alter their function & DNA integrates into Chromosome of host cell.

Transformation in Oncogen RNA Viruses: In this the RNA serves as template for synthesis of DNA by viral enzyme-reverse transcriptase. The provirus(DNA Copy formed) of viral RNA now integrates with host chromosome.

# Thus,FromFrom the following characteristics all Oncogenic Virus have the ability to integrate into host cell chromosome & be replicated with host DNA.
