Fossils can be helpful in determining the similarities and dissimilarities between the fossils and other present organism or other extinct organism thus you can link between various organism or various missing link.

Fossils age can be determined by carbon dating .

In this process , C14 and C 12 ratio is measured and it's ratio is fixed in environment.

So by measuring the percent of decay and the half life of carbon14 is known so one can determine the age of the fossils.

Transitional fossils is any fossils which has similarities with their ancestors and descendent and thus they can be signature molecule to link between the ancestor and descendent which has been diversified very much.
