Question

Which checkpoint ensures that microtubules are bound to chromosomes?

Which checkpoint ensures that microtubules are bound to chromosomes?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Before answering this question let's try to focus on two stages of cell cycle. Metaphase and anaphase . In metaphase basically the microtubules attaches to the chromosomes through kinetochores and in anaphase the division of chromosomes takes place, so logically there has to be a checkpoint before intiation of anaphase. So the checkpoint which ensures that the microtubules are properly attached to chromosomes is spindle checkpoint ( also called metaphase to anaphase Transition) which prevents the seperation of chromosomes until each chromosome is properly attached to microtubules.
