They show alpha helix and beta
sheet in their structure which is not the best way to accommodate
on the outer or the inner surface of the plasma membrane.
Usually, their N-terminal faces the
cytosol and C-terminal faces the cell outer and alpha helix and
beta pleated sheet embedded in the membrane. This is the feasible
structure for them along with their location because this way they
can carry on the transport of ions along either side of the
membrane. As majorly transmembrane proteins act as channels and
helps in transportation.
